The sweetest life

This sweetest life we live
heart shaped world of happy days
the scent of childhood drifting through
the cracks and crevices
of our yesterday driven minds,
peanut butter cookie moments
sweet and smooth
befitting nothing more
than a cold glass of milk.
Thoughts drift back to days gone by
the dairy down the street
the scent of cows in meadows
muching grass to make the white goodness,
and the glass bottles with cardboard caps
sitting in metal cages on the porch
delivered before dawn,
to see how this life is changed
no longer the joy of a door stop delivery
but stores filled with choices
overwhelming to behold
when we just long for the simplicity
of days like we had found
back then.
Aprons and potholders made by tiny hands,
mismatched and ill fitting
but loved none the less
and the plate left cooling
in an autumn window
where the breeze pushed the flavors in
filling the house
with the sense of happiness.
Those days long gone
no children have I to teach,
to bake the sweets that I recall
except for the occasion that arises
when the need to deliver to another
a simple gift to welcome
a thank you or hello,
nice to see you and a thrown together sweet
for you to enjoy
and that maybe you too will remember
those days of your life
when life was simple
and lunch bags carried
a cookie or two,
made with love
by mothers hand.

Sitting at lunch reminiscing of when I was young and how the aroma of home made cookies would drift through the house and how now every variety can be bought off a shelf, but it’s the love built within that really matters, by hand and not machine, time spent to say hey, I care and here, have a cookie or two….or three….with love,
from me.

yummy photo found at:
and the recipe too. 🙂

Like falling waters

Places of the heart
between the trees of memories
stands the home of falling waters
rushing back to carry me
through endless dreams of beauty
and visions of peace swirling through.
I know of you here
in this place where ghosts know secrets
the heart has shared
in sleep and waking I walk
amongst the ashes of yesterday
searching for answers
to questions buried in shallow ground,
amongst the rocks underneath my feet,
carelessly flipped up
to expose the earth below.
I place them one by one,
to build my path across the stream
and balance perfected
I venture slowly across
with tomorrow in my sights
leaving the echo of loneliness behind,
I come to receive a drink
silky transluscent blues
of clear joy and light
that falls from heights above,
rippling down the face of stone
to carry me away
back home.

A house I’ve always connected with since when I was younger studying the beautiful forms of architecture, this place calls to me like no other before and no other after.

Flowers and friends

White petals dance on the wind
I stand beside the loveliness
as a thousand bees dance
for my eyes and senses
the air moved by the humming song
as they flit about petal to petal
and I hold motionless listening
to the orchestra of insects
alive and gathering
to survive.
Nikolai would be proud
as the air became movement in song
a concerto for one
buzz buzz
buzzing here and there
these tiny creatures
flying close to my head
sensing not a flower
perhaps a new tree standing there
in their midst
and they go about their day
as I hold this moment here in mine,
and I smile quietly at this gift
under a summer sky
amongst flowers and friends
feeling as one.

We have a huge bush with delicate white flowers covering it and the sound of humming drew me close to see hundreds of bees just feasting on the nectar….lovely sound and image but I wonder if this is why the hummingbirds have suddenly gone scarce?

Memory imprint

I see each tiny blossom,
Baby colors blended to form
Simple beauty to behold
And I think each tiny piece that becomes
A larger part of the whole
And how back In Spring I struggled so hard
To let you survive,
To be able to bloom and grow
And to cover you in frost
With ugly woolen blankets
A yard resembling a dirty campsite
Yet below you waited,
Oh so very patiently
And you did not give much,
But you gave all you could
And I see your tiny flowers
And smile remembering
Each year that has passed me by
And each day that comes and goes
You continue to reach
For the warmth of the sun
And fill my soul with wonder
As you blush and change your colors
Lavender to blue to pink
Or many at once
And I call you my tie dye beauty
So blessed each morning to see
Your precious gentle beauty
And I am indeed richer
Because you are here,
Imprinted upon my memory that will follow me
When cold winters wind blows
I will see you and journey back
To the day I stopped
And gave thanks for your gift.

Thoughts on my little bush that struggles through weeds to give me smiles and the joy of the tie dye effect…maybe it was the fish emulsion or the dog pee…not sure, but so love this little flowering lovely.

The end of innocence

As the solitary fish swished in the plastic bag
Keeping tempo with her walk
Tap tap in heat of a summer day
No mercy when young love is the prize.
He holds her hand and smiles shyly
Leaning down kissing her sweetly
And she knows this moment is making her heart
Burst out of her chest where it lays trapped
Like the Orange fish in the bag
And feeling so alive,
The glow from within she feels grow inside
And she looks around to see who may bear witness
To this, her crowning moment
Her first love.
Days pass into night and swimming creatures
Not meant for such things
As love and fairs and heat
And the tap-tap of the bag against a young girls leg
And life moves forward like an accidental dead fish in a bag
And she cries a bit to see her little prize lost
And her heart breaks more so
When she sees the big prize gone,
Swimming away on the midway current
Lost to a prettier livelier fish.
She goes home alone then
And she sits in her room
Watching as the trucks carry her memories out-of-town
Broken down and lights shuttered
The smell of cotton candy and sweetness
Now hanging stale in the air.
Trucks rumble by in the night before dawn
Into the darkness and through town they roll.
An empty dresser but for
The glass jar sitting empty and creatureless,
But she knows someday it too will be full again
With splashing eyes and her mermaid dreams
Of the prizes out there to be won
And the trucks that left will back around
Setting up to begin again
But she will be wiser
Not giving so freely
Knowing she must work harder and harder
To build the inner fire
To believe in what truly is
Her radiant beauty lit from within.
To win the prize,
To be the victor of the game
That in her heart of hearts
She will be the one to win.

Silly thoughts from my youth and the realization that fish don’t live long in a ziplock bag in ninety degree heat and that love takes work, not just a single toss of a ball or prick of a dart and that with age always comes the wisdom that she is her own prize and to cherish her worth always.
Peace and blessings, K

Sun day morning dog

Rising on the horizon
Sweet morning light comes to find
Lazy dog time spent
Gathering comfort.
Paws damp from grasses
Slick and glistening
Waiting for streaking light
To dry the clover
And I sip my coffee
Silver mug holds warmth for hands
Feeling fall with temps too low
Is it nap time they hear the call
Basking in the line
Of light.

The heart of love

Dainty envelopes waiting
Elegant writing expressing
A heart of love
Given just because.
Close my eyes and see the smile
Blue girl shining like light
Vibrant sunshine yellow
And I can’t help but smile.
True spirits dancing
Sandy beaches and moonlit water
Tides bring change
Welcoming the truth of being alive.
A sister wild and free
Below the sky we are running free
To find our bliss in paradise
Lavender thoughts
Bring a heart filled with love.
Beautiful girl, thank you,
How I love a surprise.

A beautiful card found me unexpectedly from my girl Sara Ann. hello beautiful, pass it on and a letter filled with so much happiness and joy I could feel it through the ink to my fingers. I am blessed with amazing and beautiful friends.
