Love sent

Piecing together elements,

Words and sentences from so long ago

Give illusions life to mind

Another place

Another time,

Spent with ink stained hands

Penning letters to be sent

Across seas and oceans deep

To lands unknown,

Yet only dreamed

In a child’s eyes

Letters sent with love.

Take care and God speed

And all good blessings in between

Where your travels sent you,

Young men to wars

On desolate beaches and sandy shores,

Remember those whose ghost remains

A hundred years gone

Where do those names reside now?

On ledgers faded and yellowing pages

And bow tied stacks

Tucked away

In case he comes back,

Yet fragrance lingers

Of rose petals and crumbling sage

Remembrances of passion

And sun filled garden days

Who were you my friend

Whose life was gone

Long before it ever began,

And is she there to see you through

In the light of stars

Dancing again at the ball,

Where she gave you her hand

And love had been all.

Against the past

She stands alone

against the walls

that feel as if they daily

crumble down.

She holds her hands up

trying to stop the destruction,

the feelings and emotions

bottled behind glass,

like the dam that burst from pressure,

she is carried forward with the tide,

destination known

by only her heart.

She reaches her hand to grasp at things

she thinks will stop her from falling,

but the knowledge and escape she seeks

lies solely within her soul.

She must dive in deep,

treading past the hurt,

the pain and tears.

She must find the light once more,

and crush the foe

that is yesterday.

Battle ready she will grow strong

and looking forward to what is to come,

never back except perhaps

to wave goodbye one last time.

Finding fate

Dark of night she slips by

unnoticed girl

feline companion they travel

in search of fate.

Her eyes the teacher of secrets,

hidden behind heart of steel,

she feels the strength in each step she takes,

on her way with destiny.

Come tomorrow she will be gone,

no visible sign of her passing

except sweet air of lilac

whispering of the life she has gone to find,

her name unknown to all but one.

Through the pain and suffering she has arrived,

willowy limbs steady, moving in the night ,

the stars her guide and the moon her keeper,

she finds the sunlight in forests,

she feeds on the rain of morning.

The girl I’ve known forever and a day,

if you see her pass give a nod of the head

and don’t watch to see where she goes,

as this road she must travel alone,

her beauty a vision,

her loyalty true

and if in her wake the lavender rises

It is her gift to you,

a remembrance of youth and freedom,

A taste of yesterday reborn.
